Our vip story

Our Director Natalie had been working in various care settings over the course of 14 years, supporting people living with dementia, sensory impairments, and disabilities, when a family member became ill with dementia.

Her grandmother needed 24-hour support but did not want to go into residential care and Natalie realised that there was very little affordable support in the area to enable her to remain at home. Although paying for domiciliary care ensured her grandmother was safe and well, she would still be left socially isolated from her friends and her community.

Together with knowledge from her own personal experience that caring for a family member is often exhausting Natalie became convinced that there was a much-needed call for more support in the area for people living with dementia and their families especially with many Local Authority Day Centres having been closed down due to lack of funding.

Following specialist dementia training, Natalie developed her idea of a sustainable day care business model with the aim of providing high quality care to individuals to live well with all types of dementia, and Valuing Individual People (VIP) Day Centre was born.

VIP Day Centre has now been open 5 days a week for 6 years and expanded into two locations, which has created 14 full time staff positions.

Our centres are designed to value individual people and offer as much support as they need to take part in activities of choice that will improve their quality of life, delay further deterioration of physical and mental health, and ensure people have a positive and fulfilling experience.

We aim to ensure our care is personalised to the needs of the individual through person-centred care plans and that individuals are at the heart of the decision-making process for the service they receive. We work together with local services and agencies to support people in an holistic way and are dedicated to promoting the independence, well-being, dignity and peace of mind of all service users while striving to meet all language and cultural needs.

Our centres provide constant supervision in an exceptionally caring environment through fully trained, knowledgeable and compassionate staff. They can support with medication requirements, monitor food and fluid intake, carry out risk enablement assessments, and book appointments.

Our activities are based on whatever each individual would like to do and achieve with a wide range available including craft and art work, beauty therapy, gardening, cooking, golf putting, bowls, dancing and singing. Relaxation sessions, games, puzzles, computer sessions, reminiscence and sensory sessions provide mental stimulation while exercise sessions provide physical stimulation both indoors and outdoors.
